When I was in college in Milwaukee, late 1970s, I knew a guy who got a job with Bucyrus-Erie. I remember saying something about steam shovels and he replied with "They moved on from steam like 50 years ago."

OSHA Wouldn't Approve

Is that really someone standing under the shovel bucket? And is someone else in black to the right?

Mike Mulligan apparently wasn't too concerned about safety, but at least he had a way to back his steam shovel out of the big hole this time.
