What a heel!

Here's an ad from 1905 for a shoe with a fairly high heel. It sounds like button boots were gradually giving way to lace-up shoes. More autos and fewer horses may have contributed to that!

Heels

I can’t help noticing the heels on the shoes on the two central-most figures: the man (with blurred leg) walking towards the left and the woman (with only one foot visible) walking towards the right. I would expect to see those heels on her, but on him? They aren’t excessively high, but is he a short guy looking for a little extra height?
