Not Better with Age

Based on the various photographs this somewhat ponderous structure did not improve with age. However, it was certainly easy to tell the main entrance from a distance what with the doric columns on massive plinths holding up the facade. If only the architect had walked over to South Station and rode a New York, New Haven and Hartford train down to New York the year before and seen the Produce Exchange building, now recorded on Shorpy.

Perhaps some details could have been added to relieve the tedium ... such as a projecting steam locomotive cornice?
