Binghamton, New York, circa 1905. "Security Mutual Life Insurance building, Court and Exchange streets." Last seen here 15 years ago in portrait mode, the building still stands. 8x10 inch dry plate glass negative, Detroit Photographic Company. View full size.
The old Binghamton Public Library to the right of Security Mutual has been given a new life. As of 2022, the building houses SUNY Broome's Culinary Arts program.
Here is a video tour of the SUNY Broome Culinary & Event Center:
Is the old Binghamton Public Library. It still stands although is no longer in use. The building was constructed in 1903 with a $75,000 donation from steel baron / philanthropist Andrew Carnegie. It was still in use when I was growing up in the area back in the 1970s and '80s. Today the county has taken over the library system and there is a new building a few blocks away.
