As we go Galluping along

Gallup is now a busy, all-purpose pit stop on Interstate 40 (and historic Route 66), about halfway between Albuquerque and Flagstaff. Lotsa trucks, lotsa Santa Fe trains, lotsa Western flavor, lotsa nice scenery. But I can't find any Winona (unless you mean Minnesota). Maybe they meant Winslow?

[Maybe you can Google it? - Dave]

Get your kicks

You'll see Amarillo, Gallup, New Mexico
Flagstaff, Arizona, don't forget Winona
Kingman, Barstow, San Bernardino ...

Gallup Poles

On the hill yonder

Evidence of mining activity. Found out coal mining was a big industry with the usual history of labor strife.

Coaling tower?

Guess that's what that is -- were all the freight engines still burning coal east of Winslow in 1943? But passenger engines mostly burned oil -- or maybe all did?
